Halloween, that ‘scary’ time of the year – yes, scary as in ‘goblins and ghosts’ – but for people of color/Latino – it’s a ‘horror’ story of another kind. We are talking about, unbelievable, offensive and culturally inappropriate costumes, when people think it is okay and oh-so-hilarious to dress up, for example as a ‘Mexican’ with stereotypical ‘stache, sombrero and beer bottle, ‘brown’ painted faces…come on! It can be downright offensive! Latinos are guilty of bad costume choices, too, in the process of exhibiting cultural pride – it is best, to avoid the harmful, stereotypical caricatures and aim toward positive, cool, inspiring iconic people and things that resonate and showcase our culture beautifully…and sure, may bring out the giggles!

So here are few Halloween costume ideas that rock the hell out of our Latina pride, the right way 😉

1.) Our beloved Pan Dulce or Mazapan

This clever duo of chicasEmoExtremo and 2Cutex2Puke cracked us up…

4.) ¡Azucar!

That’s right, nuestra Afro-Latina icon, Celia Cruz. For an extra touch & special effect – sprinkle some sugar (glitter) or the real-deal azucar. #Magic
